The slope value is an average across the entire trail and may not provide an accurate indication of the steepness of a trail if that trail climbs and drops an equal amount.
A small spur trail connecting the Crest Trail with Anita Park and Anita Spring a short distance beyond.
An old roadbed from Herb Martyr to the site of a former homestead at Ash Spring, this short trail connects to the Basin Trail and can be used as part of several loops.
A relatively primitive route connecting the Price Canyon Trail to the Horseshoe Ridge Trail and climbing to meet the Crest Trail just below the top of Sentinel Peak.
A steep climb from Barfoot Park to the site of the former Barfoot Lookout atop Buena Vista Peak, intersecting the northern end of the Crest Trail along the way. The lookout burned in 2011 and only the foundation remains, but excellent views can still be enjoyed from the site.
A relatively low elevation trail connecting the Trans-Mountain Road (FR 42) with the end of the Herb Martyr Road (FR 42A), with a segment of road walking on the Greenhouse Road (FR 713) in the middle. Can be connected to several other nearby trails for a longer hike.
A short but steep climb from Hands Pass to the site of an abandoned aircraft navigation beacon building, with views of the Chiricahua National Monument.
A very short, very steep trail connecting the Monte Vista Trail with Bear Spring, the only source of water in the vicinity of Monte Vista Peak.
With a route that passes behind Fly Peak, this trail connecting the Crest Trail with the Centella Trail can be taken as part of a loop from Rustler Park. Passes by Bear Wallow Spring.
A short trail connecting Round Park to Booger Spring.
This trail departs the Crest Trail a short distance above Rustler Park and drops steeply to connect to the Rock Creek Trail and several miles beyond, the Rattlesnake Trail.
This beautiful riparian trail through an oak, sycamore and pine canopy connects the Sycamore Canyon Road at the Turtle Mountain Trailhead with the Brushy Canyon Road and the North Fork Rucker Canyon Road at the Monte Vista Trailhead.
This connector trail between the South Fork Trail and Horseshoe Ridge Trail also provides access to Burnt Stump Spring, the only reliable water source in the Sentinel Peak area.
After leaving the South Fork Trail at Maple Camp, the Burro Trail climbs towards Horseshoe Saddle high above. From the saddle, it's a long way down to the end of Horseshoe Canyon. Provides great views at both Red Rocks above Maple Camp and at Horseshoe Saddle itself.
A quick walk from a turnoff along Forest Road 42 through Cave Creek Canyon to an vista point on a small ridge with views of the canyon above the trees.
A short, relatively easy walk through Cave Creek Canyon, with frequent benches for birdwatching or just to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
Departing from Fly Saddle, this trail passes north of Fly Peak, connects to the northern terminus of the Bear Wallow Trail, and dead-ends at Centella Point, with a spectacular view of the Cave Creek Basin.
This trail departs from Junction Saddle and largely passes through a burned area until just before the peak. The top of the peak itself remains forested, but due to the fire thinning around the edges it's now possible to see out to the west.
A vague, steep route from the trail junction at Wood Canyon Saddle to Cochise Head, a distinct rock formation resembling the facial profile of the Apache chief.
A short, beautiful segment of the Crest Trail system which serves as a bypass south of Chiricahua Peak if crossing from one of the southern legs of the Crest to the other. Can also be used as part of a loop around the peak from the north.
The northern leg of the ⅄-shaped Crest Trail system, this segment extends from the Barfoot Park Road (FR 357) just north of Buena Vista Peak south to Junction Saddle, a central junction north of Chiricahua Peak. Running along the spine of the Chiricahuas, the Crest connects numerous other trails into the greater network.
The southwestern leg of the ⅄-shaped Crest Trail system, this segment extends from Junction Saddle north of Chiricahua Peak to the Turtle Mountain Trail just below Monte Vista Peak, connecting the rest of the Crest Trail system to the Mormon Ridge Trail, Chiricahua Peak Bypass and Raspberry Ridge Trail along the way.
The southeastern leg of the ⅄-shaped Crest Trail system, this segment extends from Junction Saddle north of Chiricahua Peak to the top end of the Baker Canyon Trail just below the top of Sentinel Peak, connecting to the Snowshed Trail, Price Canyon Trail, South Fork Trail and others along the way.
A short trail from the Herb Martyr Road to the gated and locked Crystal Cave. A pleasant walk with several short steep staircase-like sections, and excellent views of the Cave Creek Basin at the top.
A lower elevation trail in the southern Chiricahuas, this trail passes through lots of unburned oak with views of rock cliffs. Can get quite hot in the summer. The southern half of the trail can be difficult to follow.
A rough, little-used trail in the northwestern Chiricahuas, connecting Wood Canyon with the Apache Pass region.

Departing from the Snowshed Trail at Fossil Saddle, this overgrown and unmaintained trail drops to the area around Fossil Spring, an undeveloped seep.
A primitive, remote trail connecting Pine Canyon Road (FR 357) to the Witch Ridge Trail, through a heavily burned canyon.
A steep climb from the Cave Creek Basin to the Crest Trail, this trail has a view of Winn Falls and passes through lush plant life along Cima Creek.
A short trail which skirts Barfoot Park and ends at the site of an A-frame chapel erected in honor of a Boy Scout leader.
A short, steep trail descending from the Ojo Agua Fria Trail to Headquarters Spring, a good source of water.
A steep trail which climbs out of the Herb Martyr Campground to the Snowshed Trail 2,000 feet above. Pine Park lies a short distance west of its upper terminus. The Basin Trail and Snowshed Basin Trail connect to it a short distance from Herb Martyr.
One of several primitive trails which connect Pine Canyon Road to the Witch Ridge Trail, this passes through a small, beautiful canyon with a mix of burned and unburned areas, and interesting rock formations high above on both sides.
A short trail connecting the Indian Creek Trail at Wood Canyon Saddle to the King of Lead Mine Road within the Chiricahua National Monument. Can be used as part of a loop back into Whitetail Canyon via the Whitetail Trail.
A remote trail from Horseshoe Saddle along the Burro Trail to the base of Sentinel Peak. Connects with the Burnt Stump Trail close to Sentinel Peak. Can be used as part of several loops, including over Sentinel Peak and back down the South Fork Trail or to Horseshoe Saddle and down the Burro Trail.
A steep trail which exits Barfoot Park and descends to a trailhead at Pinery Canyon Road (FR 42). Many beautiful forested areas remain, but the lower elevation and several small higher elevation areas were badly burned in 2011 and have eroded in multiple places since then.

Beginning at the end of a rough road in Jhus Canyon, this trail passes old mine adits and the ruins of stone buildings before climbing several thousand feet to a junction with the Shaw Peak Trail at Jhus Horse Saddle.
A remote, little-used but followable trail from the top end of Horseshoe Ridge out Jones Ridge to Jones Peak, with epic views of Horseshoe, Baker, Price and Rucker Canyons, and of the Chiricahua crest to the west.
An old roadbed through a nicely forested area between Long Park and the Crest Trail just south of Bootlegger Saddle.
Exiting Long Park from the south edge of its turnaround loop, this connects to the Crest Trail, Centella Trail and Fly Peak Trail at Fly Saddle.
A beautiful trail at the end of a rough road, climbing high out of the thickly forested North Fork Rucker Canyon to the fire lookout tower atop Monte Vista Peak and connecting with the Brushy Canyon Trail and Turtle Mountain Trail near the bottom and top, respectively.
A rough climb from West Turkey Creek to the Mormon Ridge Trail at Mormon Saddle, this trail follows a beautiful canyon bottom with lush forest and moss-covered rocks and trees, but is frequently washed out and cluttered with fallen trees and rock flows from side drainages.
The higher elevation and better condition counterpart to the Mormon Canyon Trail, this starts ¾ mile below and quickly takes to the ridge north of the canyon, climbing through several sets of switchbacks to a junction at Mormon Saddle and another with the Crest Trail at Chiricahua Saddle.
Commonly used to access Monte Vista Peak from the west side, the Morse Canyon Trail climbs steeply from the end of Turkey Creek Road to the Turtle Mountain Trail at Morse Saddle, passing through beautiful, dense, largely unburned forest along the way.
A short access trail to Ojo Agua Fria, a high volume spring, as well as Headquarters Spring via the Headquarters Spring Trail.
A low-use trail in the southern Chiricahuas, this heads north out of Tex Canyon into Pine Gulch before climbing onto a heavily burned ridge and passing Swede Peak before dropping to a junction with the Cottonwood Trail.
This trail descends from Jhus Horse Saddle along the Shaw Peak Trail to a trailhead along Pinery Canyon Road (FR 42), passing Iron Spring and crossing a ridge between Horsefall Canyon to Pinery Canyon along the way.
A greater distance and higher elevation gain counterpart to the Morse Canyon Trail, the Pole Bridge Trail also climbs to both the John Long Trail and Turtle Mountain Trail, with several very steep sections. The bottom end burned in 2011 and part of the upper end burned in the distant past, with frequent deadfall across the trail through that area.
A rough but short trail providing access to John Long Canyon from Rucker Canyon.
Forking off of the Rucker Trail near Rucker Forest Camp, this trail continues up Bear Canyon before beginning one of the steepest climbs in the Chiricahuas to the eponymous Raspberry Ridge and the Crest Trail beyond.
Connecting Pine Canyon above Methodist Camp with the Bootlegger Trail and Witch Ridge Trail at Rattle Rock Saddle and the Rock Creek Trail further south, this trail's northern end through Rattlesnake Canyon is horribly washed out and obliterated, while the remainder is in comparatively good condition.
A rough, frequently washed out trail through the bottom of Red Rock Canyon which eventually climbs steeply to the ridge separating it from Rucker Canyon, passes Sage Peak, and finally connects to the Rucker Trail.
A hike up a faint trail and a creekbed to the Rucker Gates, towering spires and cliffs of red rhyolite with enormous grottos carved out of the rock by water erosion.
Beginning directly out of Rucker Forest Camp at the end of the Rucker Canyon Road, this trail follows the canyon bottom for several miles before climbing steeply to the ridge separating Rucker and Price Canyons, where it connects to the Red Rock Canyon Trail and then dropping to its northern terminus with the Price Canyon Trail.
A short but steep connector trail climbing from the Rock Creek Trail to the Saulsbury Trail at Saulsbury Saddle.
A key route for accessing the Crest Trail from West Turkey Creek, the first half of this trail passes along the creek in Saulsbury Canyon before taking to the ridge and climbing steeply to just north of Round Park.
Following the crest of the Chiricahuas north out of Onion Saddle, this trail features numerous switchbacks through an alternation of burned and forested slopes until it enters a desolate moonscape north of Shaw Peak until it reaches the Hilltop Mine near Hands Pass. Midway along its length at Jhus Horse Saddle it connects to the Jhus Horse Saddle Trail and Pinery Horsefall Trail.
A popular but steep trail that starts near the entrance to Cave Creek Canyon and climbs around the north face of Silver Peak to the site of a former fire lookout 3,000 feet above.
A relatively flat connector trail along the southern edge of the Cave Creek Basin between the Snowshed Trail and the Herb Martyr Trail, this is also accessible from spur trails to the Crystal Cave parking lot and John Hands Campground.
An originally well-constructed but very badly overgrown and unmaintained trail that switchbacks to the top of Snowshed Peak from Snowshed Saddle along the Snowshed Trail.
A long, steep trail from Cave Creek Canyon to the Crest Trail at the base of Snowshed Peak, this connects to the Fossil Spring Trail and Herb Martyr Trail and passes through Pine Park along the way.
The first mile of this trail is one of the most well-known in the Chiricahuas due to its popularity with birders. Beyond that, it follows the South Fork of Cave Creek for 3 miles before leaving the creek and climbing over several additional miles to the Crest Trail high above, near Sentinel and Finnicum Peaks.
A historic logging road built in the early 1900s joining Barfoot Park and the town of Paradise. Though overgrown in places, it can be followed for most of its original route except where modern roads overlap it. The Trans-Mountain Road (FR 42) crosses it in two places.
A relatively short and steep connector between the Turtle Mountain Trail and John Long Canyon, this trail drops down from a saddle into beautiful Cub Canyon. Many forks and cattle paths, as well as flooding damage on the western end, make this occasionally challenging to navigate.
An old roadbed connecting two points along the Long Park Road (FR 42D), this passes by several spectacularly large trees and provides an alternate route between Rustler Park and Long Park.
A relatively low elevation trail out of West Turkey Creek providing access to the Fife Canyon Trail, Rock Creek Trail at Fitch Corral, and others. Several steep climbs, nice wooded stretches, and rock pools.
A very rough, overgrown and abandoned piece of the Mormon Ridge Trail that connects the modern route of that trail and the Mormon Canyon Trail at Mormon Saddle with the Crest Trail ⅔ mile north of Junction Saddle.
A steep and rough, but very beautiful, connector trail between the Rucker Trail and the Red Rock Canyon Trail just south of Sage Peak. Very infrequently used and difficult to find at the lower end. Can be used to complete a loop combining both aforementioned trails.
